Lower in the canyon, I found about a foot of snow on the northerly road banks. About 2-3" of crusty, temperature-affected snow sits atop an exceptionally soft, coarse, weak bed of depth hoar (7-10mm). Near the reservoir, the snowpack lacks the prominent temperature crust and is deeper (around 2 feet thick) and weaker throughout. Weak snow grains poured out of my profile walls. No snowpack tests propagated.
