Below Bryant Lake

mountainmack, Wednesday 23rd October, 2024 9:32PM

Below tree line was fun short runs in good powder that was somewhat wind affected in places and had potential to slough on steeper slopes or rolls. Approximately 1200m, ESE facing and protected from wind. Above tree line was wind scoured or wind deposited in places but we experienced multiple whumphs on approach and in doing a hasty pit discovered two weak layers at ~15cm (on surface hoar) and 30cm (on rain crust). This was at about 1400m and ESE facing. And wind was from the NE. Kids in group so played it safe and retreated to safer terrain. Wind seemed to increase through the day. Temp was about -8C and steadying, but felt cooooold in the alpine (wind).
