Tent Ridge back bowl

scott.1985.wilson, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Tent Ridge back bowl. -16 at parking lot, 5 cm overnight snow. Sunny in the morning, cloud and small flurries moved in around noon. Winds calm. All the east facing slopes of the back bowl have had avalanche activity on the most recent storm snow, most size 1 to 1.5. Appeared to start as wind sloughs from the rocky zones up by the ridgeline. The two north most chutes closer to the tress had not slid, but we stayed away. Dug a pit at 2300m in the thin trees adjacent to open slopes. HS 170cm. 5-10 cm overnight snow sits on top about 30 cm of storm snow. The only moderately reactive layer was down 60 cm, CT medium 8, RP. ECT no result. Lower snowpack well consolidated. My guess is that the chutes were more exposed to wind before the last storm snow so there was a better bed to run on. I would be hesitant to ski the remaining 2 chutes after the snow storm this coming weekend, my guess is that they only need a bit more mass to follow suit. Skiing in the trees was very good, we stopped at 2300m due to equipment issues but the plan was to continue to treeline. Only other avalanche observations were in rocky cliff areas in the high alpine.
