Chunder Smash

Northwest Inland

Today, we rode at the Onion. Temperatures were 4 degrees at the parking lot by 10:30 this AM. We rode up to the Onion cabin, where the temperatures were barely cooler at 2.9 degrees, with the snowpack being completely isothermal in shallow areas. We rode in the meadows and found heavy and wet riding conditions. The snowpack was up to 120cm thick in sheltered areas but much thinner in areas exposed to the previous strong winds earlier this winter. The top 30cm of the snowpack was wet, with moist snow found down to 70cm from the snow surface. In a compression test, we observed no results and the snowpack seemed very well consolidated.
