We spent Dec 3 - Dec 6 at the Farm cabin the McGregor range. The conditions were a mixed bag. Pass FSR was plowed and there was a snowshoe track made from the summer parking lot. Skins on at parking lot.
Overall, snow coverage was better than expected. We took some snow depths at various locations:
- 1240m, below treeline, depth was 100cm
- 1620m, treeline, 110cm
- 1700m, alpine windward, 30cm. Alpine depth was about 100cm on leeward sides.
On Dec 3, conditions were stormy there was about 10cm of snowfall. Below treeline there was about 30cm of unconsolidated powder, which made for great skiing.
Dec 4 was also stormy with another 10cm of snow. Alpine was wind hammered and crusty with shallow snow depths . On Dec 4 overnight, there was warming to 1 C and rain below 1600m.
Dec 5 was sun with clouds. Below 1600m, the powder had turned to wet, cement snow. Above 1600m, graupel had fallen. The alpine wind crust was softened by the sun, making for pleasant spring-like conditions in the alpine.
Dec 6 was stormy again with 5cm of fresh snow. Temps were -5 at 1500m. Crust was forming on previous wet snow at lower elevations. Ski out was challenging with wet snow at lower elevations and/or a frozen crust on wet snow.
We had a great time with a mixed bag of conditions. There was definitely enough snow coverage for some good turns.
