Elliott NE bowl

Northwest Inland

Elliott NE basin had decent snow, very little wind effect. Intentional car size cornice drop triggered small slab in our line. It may not be representative of stability in the whole basin though.
We didn’t have set goals today, given touchy snowpack. We just went to check out new to us zone. Snow looked good in Elliott NE basin and we decided to try and push some cornice in our line. We did so secured to rope with T slot anchor. We were able to push a car size chunk of cornice in the line. It triggered a small slab right below the cornice that didn’t propagate much across the slope. The slab also didn’t entrained much snow down the slope either. Hand shears nearby crown line did show easy results on recent 20-30 storm snow. We skied nearby avalanche track on 15-20cm ski pen / decent snow. Regardless of the limited results of our intentional skier triggered avalanche we still consider the snowpack in the area touchy and needing some time to stabilize following warm temps and new snow.
