Took the sleds up into the Beaufort range today. Able to drive the truck up Rosewall creek before we had to transfer to sleds. Snow was approx 100-120 cm deep up high (1100 m) and was still in great shape. Snow pit test produced nothing alarming. Moderate results in the upper snowpack approx 60 cm down in old storm snow, and no results down approx 90 cm on the thick crust from early December. Watched as the next storm front approached, clouds filled the valley and snow began to fall. New snow began to accumulate on the still preserved low density snow from the last system. Nice to see it is not falling on a crust or a significant sliding layer like surface hoar. Lots of new snow in the forecast so keep an eye on changing conditions and read the bulletin before venturing out this weekend. Make good decisions.
