Today in the hasler riding area we were greeted with a really noticeable temperature inversion on our way in being chilly at valley bottom around -10 and warming up to -3.7. We noticed the derastic change in temps at roughly 1200m. We had some great powder riding but was wind affected in many areas. The high alpine on south to west facing slopes took the biggest beating from our observations on the way in.
We dug our pit today on a north facing slope with a incline of 29 degrees and 1550m in elevation. Total HS was 185cm. We had some fresh snow falling while we were digging and had light winds coming in from the North East. The day was mostly overcast with the clouds starting to lift and breaks of blue sky later into the afternoon. We had a few layers that reacted in our pit today, first being down 22cm reacting in the moderate range at CTM12 Sudden Collapse reacting on a storm snow interface. Also reacting in the moderate range of our compression test was a layer down 50cm this layer is reacting on decomposing surface hoar (1-2mm). Deeper down we had a Layer reacting on small facets in the hard range at CTH25 Resistant Planer. Wind loaded slopes should ridden with extra caution at this time.
Have fun and play safe!
