Skiied from Green Shack both Saturday & Sunday with very different conditions both days. Saturday we had clear skies & cold temps (-15C), with inconsistent and wind affected snow in alpine (alternating between hard crust, consolidated 'grabby' snow, and ok pockets), good snow below willow line. Skinned up past willow line into alpine and towards a lower ridge leading towards the smaller northern summit on Nadahini (sometimes called twin peaks?). Dug 2 quick pits ~1700m (one on SE facing aspect and the other on NE facing aspect), snowpack ranging ~70-90cm, top 10-15cm is consolidated storm snow from earlier in the week, below that is relatively loose & consistent snow to ground with a harder layer with some ice near bottom. Compression tests resulted in slight fracture of new layer on old snow (~10cm down) at CTE 5 (from wrist) and column failure at CTH 8 (from shoulder). South facing slopes were windblown with loading occurring on north/northeast facing slopes.
10-15cm of fresh snow fell Saturday night and Sunday was warm (-4C at Green Shack) and still snowing with limited visibility. We lapped several runs from Green Shack, transitioning slightly above willows. Snow was deep and fluffy and conditions were excellent with face shots all around. Coverage is improving in the willows, we could easily ski all the way to the road without too much willow pfaffing. Snowing hard when we left, with loading occurring in snowpack & cracks and sluffs on downside of convex rolls. We stayed in mellow terrain and had a ton of fun. Winter is starting to shape up!
