All time in 8812

shadcollins5, Sunday 10th December, 2023 11:20AM
On the drive in, a size 3 is visible just below little sifton (see photo) which set the mood for the day. Lots of avalanche activity recorded in the cannaught creek basin. Every northern ski run on Cheops has slide to some degree except niccys. Tuesdays rain bricked up valley bottom and now has 5-10cm of dust sitting on a dense base. This makes the ski out variable in places. This crust is notable up to 2000m, Above 2040m (ascending bruins ridge right before the convexity) the crust disappears and the snow becomes blower low density snow down to the SH layer (~50cm down). I can’t speak for the rest of the valley, but there appeared to be moderate to strong SW winds overnight and the Lee aspect of bruins has a notable wind slab. Winds picked up and was ~-15 at the top of the col. The descent of 8812 bowl was exceptional. Presented very little wind effect and skied like hero snow. we didn’t notice any significant signs of settling or movement on the SH layer in the bowl.
