We traveled over to Kokanee Bowl to check on conditions. We checked up on the early December surface hoar near the ridge in open trees on a southwest aspect. It was down 70 cm of a 150 cm snowpack, 2 to 3 mm and rounding. No ECT result due to its depth and the PST resulted was 52/100 End, suggesting low propagation potential at that location. Further, it is about 30 cm beneath the 4 cm hard melt-freeze crust so we thought it was a low likelihood layer for avalanching at that location. No facetting around the crust. We skied up to 40 degrees in the open trees and bowl below. The snow was softest in the protected trees.
