A Whole New World at Microwave

Northwest Inland

Avalog Forecaster , Tuesday 2nd March, 2021 5:30PM

After witnessing the wind’s wrath in the Telkwa zone yesterday we didn’t have high hopes for the Microwave area today. We were pleasantly surprised to find 30 cm of blower pow and NO wind effect in the open treeline meadows at 1600 m. This made for Amazing riding. We had a look in the snow on a sheltered slope on a NE aspect at 1550 m. We found 30cm of low density snow well bonded to a 1cm temperature crust. We didn’t find any notable weak layers in the top 150 cm. of the snowpack. Our observations represent a very small sample size of the Smithers area and we will continue looking for persistent weak layers in the coming days.

Snow conditions were: Powder. Weather conditions were: Cloudy. We rode: Convex slopes, Open trees, Steep slopes. Riding quality was amazing.
