We rode the east aspect of Crowe Peak and the riding was good! We stayed in mostly dense trees with a few open areas. Near the base of the slope on the same aspect (east) we dug multiple snow pits. We discovered a thick melt/freeze crust approximately 40-50 centimeters down with the storm snow sitting above that. We had sheer results above the thick crust after 14 hits doing the compression test. Another compression test resulted in failure at the ground within the faceted layers at 14 hits. We preformed a rutschblock test and it failed on a laminate crust approximately 10 centimeters above the melt freeze crust at RB6.
