Made our way to to Sterling today to get some observations on the January 5th crust, surface hoar, facet complex.
The visibility was extremely bad and unfortunately didn't allow us to travel far from the cabin.
We found 10cm new snow over top tracks from the previous day on our climb up to the cabin and 45cm from the current storm cycle over the January 5 crust.
An extended column test at 800m yielded no results but our compression test had a hard broken result down 45 above the crust.
This crust, surface hoar, facet combo is one to watch and we will be giving it the space it deserves with more snow and rising temps on the way.
