Quick report
As expected, there were no signs of instability. We saw some very big old avalanches. We were able to park within 2.6 miles of the park butte trailhead. The rest of the road is patchy with snow half of the time. The travel in the forest is rough with the creek crossings deteriorating significantly by the end of the day. We only had to take skis off once for the crossings but I imagine by tomorrow most of the creek crossings will be bare. We intended to do a c2c summit but turned around at 8500 due to timing and conditions. The wind won the “corn battle” above 8000 despite significant strong sun. The rain runnels made ascending more difficult than prior years. We felt the steep traverse angle on the runnels was sketchy and extra tiring. Travel was twice as slow as normal due to the runnels. We ended up having ~2k of really good corn on the way down though!
