Quick report
No signs of avalanche activity on this terrain, or anywhere in view. Small wind lip and some leeward loading exists down ridge over steep N terrain, but otherwise soft surface snow with new surface hoar present from clear, calm overnight. Weather was nice! Mostly sunny, clouds increased to mostly cloudy by late afternoon. Wind: calm (& no evidence of recent wind) Temps: 9 deg F at parking lot (0830), warmed to 34 deg F (1500). C Snowpit: (see photo) HS=145cm 7500' elev, W aspect, 20 deg slope Looking for buried surface hoar layer, and reactivity to testing. Results: CT10(RP) down 29cm in non-obvious soft storm slab (above the BSH layer). Got the BSH to collapse at CT18, but with a BRK fracture character. ...pretty stubborn and not propagating. ECT15 down 29cm (same soft storm layer); got that layer to propagate full column at ECT19. Better confidence with snowpack, but suspect the lack of results on the BSH is only because the slab above is still fairly soft. This could change with more settlement or additional load. We skied W to SW to E slopes back to parking lot, and other side N-NW slopes. Wonderful powder snow! Kept it mostly below 30 degree slopes.
