Quick report
We set out at ~8am from the parking area and ascended Tallac by the Corkscrew route. Perceived temps climbed quickly in the sun but the snow felt high quality. We traversed to the base of the North Bowl where we dug a test pit at 9300ft to assess stability of the recent storm snow and reactivity of the Feb 10th PWL. Results gave us confidence that the snowpack was settling and consolidating and we struggled to trigger any reaction from the deep PWL. We skied the North Bowl from the saddle avoiding convexities and continued down through trees down to 7800ft. We encountered a thin wind buff layer at the top of the North Bowl (present in the test pit) and a thin sun crust on south facing features. Additionally we observed some roller balls and point releases from south facing features and trees. We ascended and upon reaching the top of the Corkscrew observed the skier triggered avalanche mentioned here and previously reported. We skied the Corkscrew trees to the bottom, again noting the sun crust on south facing features, but encountering excellent snow conditions in northern areas.
