Cracking
isolated

We toured up to a high point of 5,600’ in the upper basin on the north aspect of Jim Hill Mountain. Overall we experienced challenging travel conditions below 4,500’ and pleasant ski conditions above 5,000’ in light unconsolidated snow. We did experience a couple instances of shooting cracks in isolated areas above 5,000’ where the snow had clearly been wind affected in slightly western aspects and only in places where our skin track undercut the storm snow. The cracked slab was resistant to moving downhill after the initial crack. It seemed to be on the interface under the storm snow.
