Quick report
We did the ol’ wrap around Crown Point to get to the Bass crags today, starting at the Bass TH, and we were able to skin from and ski back to the car- what a treat! We had a fairly casual start, starting at 9, and the snow surface was punchy for most of our climb, firm only in the shadiest places. Once we got out of the cover of the pines we felt like we were at the beach. We wrapped around at about 7800’ onto the southerly aspect of CP, and things were moist. Small piles of wet loose debris were widespread, and glassing around the Kootenai drainage, most aspects had some evidence of wet loose slides. We observed an avalanche on the SE face of Lappi point, triggered by cornice fall. Hard to say how recent it was, but it did look fresh, maybe from this last week. I also observed some cornice falls on the divide. Once we topped out our climb, we had great views of the southerly aspects of lil, big and stormy Jos. This past week sure melted a lot of snow, however many of the choice ski runs still looked quite smooth and without much wet debris at all. I did spot a glide crack on big Jo. We skied a steep couloir into the crags cirque and found a smorgasbord of conditions; just like Arden yesterday, everything but blower. We could feel the rain crust in spots, but mostly chalky wind board down to the trail. The trail weathered the tropical heat up like a boss, as in Bass creek trail is still fat and skiing from the TH :)
