We spent the day in steep cross loaded terrain on the Northwest shoulder of Castle crag. We were getting quite a bit of isloated cracking in thin, recently formed hard surface slabs (up to 4" deep). We did not observe any other obvious signs of instability. We dug down about 90 cm a NW facing, cross loaded slope at 7,000 feet to assess our ascent route. HS 250 cm. We found the storm interface and another interface at 90 cm, but neither produced unstable ECT results. Gusty west winds were present all day at all elevations above 6,000 feet.
Avalanche
We observed several recent natural avalanches from the President storm event. They were primarily at upper elevations with heavy wind loading including directly below ridgelines and below steep N to E cliffs which received heavy sluff loading during the storm.
