Quick report
Plan was to hike the crest south from alpine and take a look at twin peaks to see if there was a refreeze and/or corn window. By 930am it was really hot and east aspects were producing lots of rollers and pinwheels. I traveled on west facing side of ridge and it did have a refreeze that felt like it’d corn up in an hour or so. I dropped into a NE aspect off if grouse to test it out and it was actually more hot pow than corn,, hadn’t really transitioned yet, then variable conditions with breakable crust in the tree shade. I decided to just follow the grouse ridge down back to the resort. There was some good corn on E/NE aspects around 8k feet at 10am. The cornices were much smaller than I’d anticipated on the crest, but a few of them looked very close to breaking away and if they didn’t later today they’re likely to tomorrow I’d say. Only pic I took was of tracks from a bear who’d post-holed a return track :)
