Rubicon Peak

Evidence of a decent refreeze existed on Rubicon Peak this morning. The frozen crust was firm on N-NE aspects until noon in most places, especially in the shade. Sunnier spots started to soften earlier, and my skis began to break through the crust in a couple of spots just before noon on these typically colder aspects. 

The E-SE-S aspects directly facing the sun had 1-3 inches of soft, wet snow on them by 11 am at all elevations. Ski cuts on these sunny slopes started to trigger roller balls around noon above 8000 ft. As I descended below 8000 ft, the snow became wet and punchy and barely supported my skis. 

From the top of Rubicon, I could see several recent wet loose avalanches on sunny slopes near rocks in the Desolation Wilderness.
