Conditions were increasingly variable as elevation increased above 9k’. NTL and higher showed many snow surface types. Wind crust, sastrugi and soft wind slab was observed without a clear pattern of what surface type was on what aspect. Winds shifted and created complex surface conditions. Most common was edge-able windboard, about pencil hardness. Pockets of windslab were reactive to my weight, while other slab areas adjacent were not reactive. In isolated areas very textured sastrugi was seen, as well as a small amount of glare ice.
