Quick report
I toured for the second day out to Castle Peak NW Trees and Andesite Peak. Today’s forecast was spot on in regards to changing and variable conditions. Warm, calm, and sunny conditions early at the trailhead turned to overcast skies and windy conditions on the ridges by late morning. By afternoon ridge winds were blowing snow off of Basin Peak and the ridge to Castle Peak, as well as Andesite Peak. I did find some sun crust from yesterday afternoon, and some warming and wetting powder, as well as cold dry snow in shaded areas not affected by the sun. I skied right next to my tracks from yesterday, with very little change in the NW Trees, and slightly denser snow on Andesite. Interested to see how tonight’s wind and snow will play out for tomorrow..
