Gothic

Shallow refreeze (~3" ATL) broke down quickly and was becoming unsupportive by about 8:30 am on sunlit slopes. We turned around climbing a steep southeast slope due to wet slab concerns. Boot pen was knee deep, and there was a very wet, weak layer of polycrystals about a foot deep that had been producing collapses at lower elevations where it was closer to the snow surface. 

Localized collapsing and cracking about 6 to 8" deep on a saturated layer of wet snow. This was in near treeline terrain where the snow surface was white and fresher looking, in contrast to old dusty surfaces that were quiet underfoot.
