Brooks/Barber Point

We rode to Brooks to clear the interval board and observed how the new snow was bonding to the N/O interface, now around 11 inches deep. New snow was punchy and slightly upside-down due to warming and denser snowfall in the latter half of the morning. Soft slabs were reactive on both north (thin layer of NSFs) and south aspects (crusts with facets). Recent cornice development on lee aspects, with some slopes stripped bare to grass due to intense winds. The slab of recent snow was too soft to propagate in our snowpit test (easy ECTN7 result), and likely will become more reactive as it settles/sees more wind. We observed several small (D1) avalanches on N aspects. This problem will likely remain reactive for the near future as we enter a continued active weather pattern and until any weak snow is given time to adjust to the weight of incoming snowfall and wind loading. Steep terrain (over 30 degrees) should be regarded and cautiously assessed throughout the next few days. Luckily, plenty of fun riding abounds in the gentler terrain around Togwotee. Additionally, steer clear of terrain traps and areas under cornices.
