Quick report
Helen Lake to Redbanks is the steepest part of the Avalanche Gulch climb. It's where 99% of slips and falls occur, as well as all rock and ice fall. To get around the RedBanks feature, the climbing rangers suggest climbing right of The Heart and up through the filled in snow gullies on the right side of Redbanks. Many route descriptions tell you to go over to The Thumb, but this is not necessary. The route depicted keeps you off and away from the Konwakiton Glacier bergshrund.
Another option is left of The Heart and left of Redbanks. This route is fine, but steeper.
Snowpack
The snowpack is holding steady. Near treeline, about 60-70 inches of snow exists on the ground. Coverage is still decent. Below treeline is thin; watch out for obstacles. You can still ski all the way to Bunny Flat.
Avalanche
April snow and wind has brought fresh snow to the mountain. We've seen a few slab avalanches and some wet loose. Continue to pay attention to the 5 red flags of avalanche danger and act accordingly if you see any signs of unstable snow. Carry an avalanche beacon, shovel and probe.
