Snow surface ATL was very firm on the uphill and did not soften by the time we descended cascade gulch at noon. 800 ft below the ridge softened around noon, with east facing slopes skiing well. Of note is the condition of the Whitney Glacier. There were some bits of dry glacier visible from the cascade gulch saddle. Many open crevasses and scoured surfaces, photo attached. Northerlies that held snow were covered in sastrugi, up to 2ft high. W facing was a mixture of sastrugi and old frozen knife hard wind slab.
