Found generally stable conditions where we traveled, where winds have not blown recent snow into drifts. In very steep terrain, we were able to trigger small sluffs, but these were small in size and slow-moving. Sluffs ran on a variety of surfaces, from old wind crusts, sun crusts, and faceted surfaces. We found large surface hoar growing on west aspects (up to 1cm in places). The sun was doing its best to knock it down, but much of it was upright and proud. Below the new snow and old crusts, the mid-pack of the snowpack was facetted above a stiffer slab below, near rocks and shallow spots; the entire snowpack was faceted. This made for some challenging on-foot travel conditions.
