Quick report
Started a solo tour around 0730 just off of 395 heading up the By Day Creek trail/ Buckeye Creek XC trail. Cloudy day with temps around 32F and increasing. My goal was to make it out of the tree line however, my four legged friend got tired. From 6500ft to around 7500ft the snow was still soft. On skis I would penetrate mid-boot. With boots down to the base/ waist deep. At around 7300ft the snow was becoming considerably wet also leading to the to decision to abort. There was a noticeable top crust that feels like it formed after rain. From my observation this was on all slope aspects. At that time I was punching through bitter bush and did not want to get stuck upside down. Snow depth here in isolating terrain was 0-90cm with averaging 60cm. From a distance I could see a small cornice on a ridge line 8500ft. Surface hoar was observed above 7000ft. Other than that an uneventful morning.
