Quick report
Went searching for snow in the Northern Gallatins today. A somewhat consistent snow line started near 8000’ on non solar aspects. There was up to two feet of snow on the ground in the most protected areas. The snow was, for the most part, faceted and weak. On top of the largely faceted structure there was a widespread crust layer, covered with large surface hoar (8-10mm). Unsurprisingly, the skiing quality was poor.
