Broken skies with building cloud cover throughout the day. Moderate to strong winds from the SSE. No precipitation. We observed flagging along ridgetops and active snow transport at higher elevations.
Snowpack
Similar to the South Fork of Eagle River, the snow surface has changed from dry snow to wet, gloppy snow or ice. The snow coverage in Upper Rabbit Creek was sparse and ranged from bare ground to 5" of snow. The snow was deepest in areas that are likely to fill up with snow, like gullies. Because of the lack of snow coverage, no formal snowpits were dug. The likelihood of triggering an avalanche in the Chugach State Park remains low because of the lack of snow.
