We toured up Fresno to check how warm the snowpack is becoming in Summit Lake and to look for buried surface hoar.  There was 5 or 6 inches of new snow from the last few days on top of a supportable crust. We dug three snowpits, two at 2,300' and one at 2,850' (ECTX).  The east facing pit at 2,300'(ECTP25 down 50cm on fist hard facet/melt freeze grains) and the south facing pit at 2,850' were similar and had a concerning layer about 2' below the surface that was capped with a supportable crust at the time that we dug the pits. Once that crust breaks down that layer will become very dangerous and wet avalanche problems will become very likely. The north facing pit at 2,300' had a less concerning structure and no concerning test results. We did not find any buried surface hoar in any of the snowpits or hand pits that we dug.
