We rode Clemina. Access was terrible. We drove to approximately the 6km point where there was 2” of snow on the road. I need new skis.
We found a decent amount of new snow, maybe 40cm. There was significant wind affecting in some areas.
As there was no avalanche information available, we dug a snow pit in an area relatively unaffected by wind. We found about 1.1m of snow. We observed a crust layer at approximately 60cm. We isolated a column of snow and performed a compression test. There was a sudden failure at 70cm on the first should strike. We then performed an extended column test, which also failed at the 70cm depth on the 3rd shoulder strike.
No natural avalanche activity was observed.
