Between Mt. Kelly and Nordheim

Based on local conditions and the Manning resort report, we figured bringing skis would be dumb and that the snow would be very consolidated. We were wrong. Almost no snow from the road to the top of Mt. Kelly but we were surprised at the conditions after that. Only about 65cm total on the ground on the flats. About 3-4 inches of sugary powder on a crusty layer that would not support ours nor my dog’s weight, followed by 5 inches of sugar again and then another crusty layer that would not support weight more often than not. Looking across at the brothers, we couldn’t help but wonder if the riding might be okay up there right now. Afternoon temps and sun were definitely having an effect on southern sections with a slightly more vertical degree but the flats seemed to be less effected.
