Finally found some Surface Hoar today!
Another massive inversion today. Minus 5 in Alpine and -20 at the trucks !
35cm of fresh powder, followed by a 1F + dense layer of melt freeze crust. This layer is a concern because Surface Hoar sits on top of this melt freeze layer and was reactive as a CTM 12 down 35cm on Surface Hoar and melt freeze crust interface.
The next layer of concern is down 45 cm and reacted as a CTH 21 down 45 on Rain Crust / Facet interface (sz. 3.0)
Total Snowpack at 4,500 feet was 155cm above Arctic Cat Meadows
