Warm Temps and Cool Caves

Today we spent the morning in Kakwa doing weather station maintenance. The temperature was +8 degrees, with light, gusty winds and sunshine poking through the clouds. You can't ask for better weather for gloves off, don't drop the bolt kind of work. Unfortunately, it is also the type that opens up creeks, melts snow, and promotes avalanche release. In the afternoon we went up to Babette and saw multiple avalanches that had been released in the last 72 hours. A few of these were big enough to bury a person. With warm temps continuing for a couple more days we are avoiding avalanche terrain and overhead hazard.
