Ice Climbing - Ranger Creek

Light to moderate winds all day gusting to strong. Lots of snow transport in the Alpine. Burstall Pass weather station shows today's temps steady at about -3C which matches our observations.

Below treeline - 10cms of new snow over the bed surface in the valley. Treeline drifted and new snow - Just over boot top height. Alpine - Generally wind scoured but with lee pockets having deposits up to knee height over previously transported snow. In these lee pockets there is a melt freeze crust capping the previous transported snow approx 20cms down. New forcasted for the region starting Oct. 29 will increase the avalanche hazard in this drainage significantly especially with moderate and gusting to high winds
