Good conditions for quick travel, generally poor skiing with some isolated pockets of good snow below treeline. Lots of wind in the Wheaton over the last week. Temps were -25 in the morning and -6 at 4pm. Observed some small size 1 natural avalanches on solar aspects where terrain was steep and snowpack thin.
Snow conditions were: Crusty, Hard, Wind affected. Weather conditions were: Windy. We rode: Alpine slopes, Convex slopes, Steep slopes, Open trees. Riding quality was ok.
Avalache Conditions: Whumpfing or drum-like sounds or shooting cracks.
Snowpack
Surface hoar forming below treeline on-top of sugary facets. Inverted snowpack is common. At and above treeline is generally sastrugi and crusts of variable hardness.
Avalanche
Triggered a small windslab on the edge of a gully. Not enough slope to get substantial runout. Definitely some sensitive slabs around, chose your lines wisely!
