We went for a loop around Nadahinni today, expecting to enjoy some sunshine. But the wind and cold temps made it pretty inhospitable. Scouring snow in the high alpine and loading slopes. We were avoiding large slopes that could produce a persistent slab and watching out for cornices as we travelled.
There was around 30 to 50 cm of recent storm snow, which is being redistributed into lee areas.
As for avalanches, we saw two large (size 2 to 3) persistent slabs that had occurred within the last 24 hours. We also triggered several small (size 1) wind slabs while travelling on sleds, and saw a few more large ones that went naturally, likely 24-48 hours ago.
