The Teton's upper elevations and west side terrain faired well from last night's storm. N flow made for low-density, right-side-up skiing (and many slippery stellars on the skin track). This snow is certainly available for transport if winds increase; however, given the light winds forecasted, this snow will stay loose and likely only pose a hazard in consequential, steep terrain that could knock a skier somewhere they do not wish to go. Solar aspects hold a supportable, melt-freeze crust beneath the newest snowfall, which new snow will move quickly on, particularly when skies go full blue the next several days [solar-induced dry-loose].
Basal facets are buried 75-100cm (2.5-3') deep along winded ridges and shallow areas and 1.25 meters (4') in sheltered terrain above 9,000'. A pit dug on a W aspect ~9,800' revealed a consolidated slab of 1F rounds atop 2-3mm moist basal facets with an HS~160-180cm (>4') Shallow spots had ~2' of snow and well-developed, striated facets. However, these areas are likely not well connected and spatially diverse. Probing for weak snow is still prudent despite the persistent problem being a high consequence yet unlikely scenario, and also due to a lack of observations and travel above 10,000' and the high peaks of the Tetons. Areas that have previously avalanched should remain suspect.
