Quick report

Beautiful, clear day with temps starting around 20 F when we left the Moccasin Basin trailhead. Light winds kept snow surfaces cool all day despite abundant sun. We did not observe any signs of instability throughout our ride, however we did observe three small avalanches on shallow, rocky, wind-loaded slopes in the Fish Creek drainage. Two slides appeared to be triggered by animals due to the presence of tracks adjacent to the starting zone of one slide. This area typically has a shallow snowpack and avalanche activity is usually not observed, but currently there is approximately 2-3 feet of snow likely sitting on weak, faceted snow near the ground.
