I went for a walk up to Catherine’s and ended up walking around in Dry Fork behind the Alta ski Resort. I was skiing on a low angle ENE facing slope that leads into a rollover with a little more tilt to the north. When I was walking up I could feel a denser wind slab sitting under the new snow from last night and today’s new snow and knew it was sitting on facets from earlier this year. I stopped at the rollover took a few steps and remotely triggered the slope from about 10ft away. The slide ran on facets at the ground. The crown was a foot deep and about 30ft wide. It would have been a fairly user friendly slide, but its the canary in the coal mine for incoming storms. Anywhere that there was old snow is suspect and will become off limits during this weekends forecasted storm.
