Trip report | Buck Prairie | Jan 11, 2025 Road to Buck Prairie was very clear until the last .25 mile when it turned to snow-covered. There was no issue with traction using winter tires. There were ~5 cars in the lot. There appeared to be a new dusting of snow, but the coverage to the bathrooms is very low. There were no signs of instability. It was a clear day around 30F with light winds. There was one point we did decide to take skis off and walk for 100 feet. Before the bathroom there is no particular track; all of the road is used for various walkers, snowshoers, and skiers. Past the bathrooms the snow quality was good, with good glide and coverage. We turned right to go up the hill to follow Natasha's Web and the snow became sticky, which was very good for climbing this slightly steep section. We were unable to follow Natasha's Web due to low snow levels. We moved cross-country making our own trail, sometimes taking off our skis until we got back to the sign at the top. The snow down from the top back to the bathrooms was very fast. There were some rocks, but they could mostly be avoided. There is only one very bare patch right before the bathroom gate. tl;dr Snow at Buck Prairie is low, particularly on the road before the bathroom. After that, the road has good coverage. Natasha's Web doesn't currently seem like it can be done in its entirety.
