East Peak

Found a variety of wind affected snow surfaces below 3000 ranging from sastrugi, knife hard wind slab, and areas stripped down to the 1/15 rain crust.  Surfaces were locked up and wind slabs were unreactive on test slopes.

From 3000-3800' found a bit of protected snow with an old rime crust at the surface, preventing further wind erosion mixed with old shallow powder.  No signs of instability were present.  Dug a pit at 3700' on a nw aspect and found a snowpack with good strength, fair structure, and no propagation.  I believe I was able to identify the 1/26 interface down 45 cms consisting of 1-2mm rounding facets.  Grain type did not apperar to be concerning in this location but did have a 1.5 step change in hardness from layer above and grain size change from .3-1-2mm.   ECTX. Poor structure felt with probe at the base of the snowpack.
