While transitioning on a flat area at 9055 ft., we heard and felt two successive, significant collapses beneath and around us. The slide initiated in the convex start zone of a miniature couloir feature over the large cliff band in the Philips bench area on East Northeast aspect, several meters from where we were standing. The slide continued over the cliff band where it entrained more snow (R.3?). We estimated the crown line at around 24-30 inches (60-75 cm). Though we did not examine the slide closely for safety reasons, we are assuming that surface hoar was the culprit for this spooky remote trigger. Our plan for today was to travel safely and out of avalanche terrain, and we are immensely humbled by this unprecedented and reactive snowpack. We are thankful that we did not harm someone below us.
