- <p>Only red flag today was evidence of cornice collapsing. The strong winds from Monday built out cornices that eventually could not support their own weight. The photo is of one that collapsed at the top of a low angle slope. I can imagine that at higher elevations these cornices are much bigger and, if above a steeper slope, could pose a threat from above or below. </p>
One other thing of note: the wind from Monday coated the entire range with dust. Luckily it got covered up with a bit of snow but is very visible when skiing through it. The dirt will accelerate spring melt as it absorbs heat.
Snowpack
Depending on the aspect the new snow from Mon-Tues storm ranged from wet to dry. North facing sheltered snow was light and still very dry. The other sides of the compass were becoming pretty moist by noon.
