Our avalanche course toured into “the playpen,” just north of lower Raymond Cataract. We observed some rollerballs and two natural D1 avalanches that had released from the ice cliffs above. We practiced snow pits and found fractures in the upper 35cm of the snowpack, not the deeper faceted layer. The Playpen skied great!
