Our AIARE course toured into Huntington ravine, arriving on the floor at about 11:30 am. We made visual observations on the surrounding terrain to assess the distribution, and size of wind slabs formed in the past 12 hours. We observed large wind slabs in isolated locations (particularly underneath the central gully ice), and wind loading and deposition widespread across the ravine. We also noticed moderate rates of wind transport off the ridge lines and around the ravine, and isolated cracking under our skis. Our observations, paired with the danger rating for the day, turned us around at the floor, exiting at about 12:30. *we also noticed what appeared to be a crown line in Odell’s gully, above the lower ice flows. Absence of debris made us question the occurrence date, but the lack of snow lower in the gully made us think it may have been somewhat recent
