Poor Snowpack Structure

We observed roughly 1-2 inches of new snow. At 8500 ft on a N facing slope, the snow depth was roughly 50cm. Excluding the inch or two of surface snow, the snow continues to lose strength as time goes on. We dug around a bit to try and gain some understanding of how the faceting was progressing. In general, faceting is evident throughout the entire storm layer from the ~11/10 storm cycle that makes up the bulk of the snowpack at that location, though the top 15 or so cm was perhaps a bit weaker than the underlying snow.
